Ramadhan

The month of fasting is coming up. I really can't wait.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to duskIt becomes compulsory for Muslims to start fasting when they reach puberty, so long as they are healthy, sane and have no disabilities or illnesses.

The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities. Its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. It also teaches Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control,sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate; thus encouraging actions of generosity and charity. Lastly, those traveling (musaafir) are exempt, but must make up the days they miss.

"The month of Ramadan, in which was revealed the Qur'an as guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and (explainthe difference (between right and wrong). Therefore, whoever of you is present in that month, he should fast during the month ... "

Ramadan- Al-Baqarah, verse 185

Ramadan is a time for Muslims to think and reflect on themselvespray, make welfare and spend time with family and friends. It is hoped that by fasting from dawn to dusk Muslims will be able to enhance self-discipline and be generous and to remember the hardship of poor people destitute.
